Introduction to CAD Videos

Video 1: What Is CAD and Why Use It?

This video is primarily for mechanical detailers who have little or no CAD experience and are considering switching from paper drawings to CAD. It is also for experienced tradesmen that are starting to detail and want to start with CAD but just don't know what software they need or where to start. In this video you will learn what CAD is, some basic terminology and what the benifits of using CAD are. Since seeing is beliveing, while we are explaing the basic concept of CAD, we will be running a side-by-side, real time comparison of hand drawings a spool sheet vs. CAD drawing the same spool sheet. After viewing this video we think you will understand why learning CAD will well worth the effort.

Video 2: Program Set-Up and Basic Customization.

This video is an introductory tour of a typiclal CAD software interface. Here you will learn what the drawing environment looks like and how to customize it to boost your productivity. You will also learn how to use some of the drawing tools and settings. These will include the drawing grid, orthomode, polar tracking, display modes and keyboard short cuts. You will also see how to access and customize the display of tool bars, ribbons and menus. Later you will see how to customize your display and even some of your mouse buttons. In the future, when you have gained some experience with CAD you may want to re-visit this vidio as a refresher on how to change some of the settings you didn't quite understand during your first viewing.

Real World CAD's 3-D Dimensioning Tool Overview Video

This video provides a brief overview of Real World CAD’s 3-D dimensioning tool. This software tool makes dimensioning in 3-D model space simple and fast. At its heart, this tool uses your CAD engine’s native dimensioning command. In most cases this means no additional changes to your dimension settings will be necessary. It also means that all dimensions are editable using the native tools of your CAD engine. With our tool you will be able to dimension a 3-D isometric drawing easier than dimensioning a 2-D isometric drawing. Like all of our tools, the dimensioning tool is also compatible with the AutoCAD, BRICSCAD, GstarCAD and many other IntellliCAD CAD engines. Go to CADavenue.com for downloads and more information.

Real World CAD's Type-Z 3-D Elevation Tool Instructional Video

This video will describe in detail the Real World CAD’s Type-Z routine. The Type-Z routine will allow you to change the elevation (“Z” component) of any 3-D cad entity. The flexibility of the Type-Z tool along with its Pseudo Calculator mode will practically eliminate the use of a dimensional calculator for setting the elevation of piping, ducting, structural members, architectural element, plumbing fixtures and practically any 3-D CAD entity. In this video we will use the Type-Z routine to set the elevation of the beams using the structural engineer’s drawings using the absolute mode, set the elevation of the ceiling elements using the height above finished floor from the architects drawings and finally set the elevation of the pipe and ducting to avoid collisions with all of the elements in the area. We will also use the Type-Z routine to set the elevations of the plumbing fixtures in a men’s room. This will include setting the starting elevation for the vent manifold. All of this will be done without the use of a dimensional calculator. Go to CADavenue.com for downloads and more information.
